Officials break ground for IRC construction

 

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Amid cheers and applause, officials on August 9 launched the final steps toward making a permanent home for a day center for Greensboro’s homeless residents.

Run planned to benefit Backpack Program

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A run will take place on Saturday, August 28, to benefit The Backpack Program of Guilford County.
 
A fund to benefit the program is administered by The Community Foundation. The Backpack Program of Guilford County provides nutritious weekend meals to area school children at risk of hunger.
 
The Children's Fun Run will kick off at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 5K Run/Walk/Push at 9 a.m. The event will take place in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Greensboro and is hosted by Friends of Kirkwood Inc.

Local mother establishes fund to support hungry children

A Greensboro woman has helped launch Greensboro’s first BackPack program, which provides area school-age children who are at risk of hunger with backpacks of nutritious foods to take home on the weekends.

Parker Wood White says the birth of her daughter, Avery, shown left, inspired her mission to assist children and our community.

White is a 1997 graduate of Page High School, who worked in Washington for U.S. senators before returning to her hometown in 2008.
