Local developer pledges up to $25,000 to become challenge sponsor of Future Fund
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Greensboro businessman John Lomax has pledged up to $25,000 in matching funds to become this year’s challenge sponsor of the Future Fund.
Lomax’s gift was announced recently at a gathering of Future Fund members.
“Mr. Lomax’s gift is so important because it allows us to give to our permanent endowment,” said Corey Pitz, Philanthropic Services Officer at The Community Foundation, which established the Future Fund. “In turn, the Future Fund is able to make gifts to the community – through grants – that we otherwise could not.”
Each member of the Future Fund is crucial because their membership dollars are matched. The more members the organization has, the more it can give back to the community through grants.
Lomax, President of Lomax Construction and Lomax Properties, has agreed to provide Future Fund up to $25,000, matching money the organization itself raises in membership dollars. Each member pays $125 to join. This year, the Future Fund’s grant theme is “Supporting Healthy Lifestyles.”
The Future Fund is a fresh approach to philanthropy. Its members are a group of young leaders from the Greensboro area who are committed to making our community a better place and improving the quality of life for all of our citizens. Future Fund members have this impact on their community by contributing to a permanent endowment that makes grants to build a better Greensboro.
“My first exposure to The Community Foundation was through the Future Fund,” Lomax explained. “I admired and appreciated the donors who would provide the match to the Future Fund, so I remember thinking to myself at that first Future Fund meeting, ‘Wouldn't it be great if someday I could have the resources to provide the challenge grant.’ ”
“Three years ago, I formed a foundation which is administered by The Community Foundation, and here we are – full circle. So the Future Fund can point to this measurable result – that involving young people in philanthropy does reap long-term benefits.”
