Annual Luncheon date rescheduled
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro is pleased to announce it has rescheduled its Annual Luncheon featuring the Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor. The event will take place at Noon on Monday, March 8, 2010, at The Empire Room in downtown Greensboro.
Originally planned for November, the event was postponed because of the failing health of Justice O’Connor’s husband, who passed away the day the luncheon was to be held.
The Foundation will honor the tickets of those who already purchased them for the original November event. If a ticketholder is unable to attend on March 8, the Foundation will offer a full refund on the ticket. At this time, the event is sold out.
At the luncheon, The Community Foundation will present its highest honor, the Thornton H. Brooks Leadership Award, to Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, the founder and CEO of Pace Communications in Greensboro, former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Finland and chair of the national American Red Cross.
Justice O’Connor and McElveen-Hunter are longtime friends.
The Thornton H. Brooks Leadership Award is named after one of the founders of The Community Foundation and recognizes an individual whose philanthropy style – one of generous, unheralded and quiet giving – resembles that of the late Brooks
