2008 Habitat for Humanity International Scholarship

The Habitat for Humanity International Scholarship was established in 1999 by Pace Communications of Greensboro and provides scholarships to children of full-time employees of Habitat for Humanity International.  The $5,000 award is renewable if the student continues to meet the requirements set out.  The winners for 2008 are: 

     
 

Samuel Eden of Americus, GA graduated from Americus-Sumter Co High School. He will attend Georgia Institute of Technology to study Engineering

Sarah Evans of Americus, GA graduated from Americus-Sumter Co High School. She will attend Armstrong Atlantic State University to study Chemistry

Kevin Foor of Norman, OK, graduated from Norman North High School. He will attend University of Oklahoma and is undeclared on his course of study

Cordelia Seidel of St. Paul, NC graduated from Cretin-Derham Hall. She will attend The University of Iowa and will study either Sociology, Psychology or Social Justice

Valeria Vidal of Boca Raton, FL graduated from Marian Baker School in San Jose, Costa Rica and has not confirmed the university in which she plans to attend and will study International Studies

 


 

Construction Professional Network of NC Scholarship



CPN of North Carolina, Inc. is a statewide organization of executives, public servants and professionals involved with design, construction and related firms who serve the construction industry.  The CPN Scholarship Program was established to assist the in the education of the future leaders of the construction industry and to create an alliance between CPN and the North Carolina institutions that provide construction industry education  Three scholarships, each for $2000, have been awarded for 2007.  Adrian Boggs, UNCG in the Interior Architecture program; Alexandra Koury, Appalachian University in the Interior Design program and David Varner, East Carolina University in the Construction Management program.

The John R. Kernodle, Jr. Memorial Scholarship, established in 1997, provides scholarships for seniors graduating from Guilford County High Schools who will teach in K-12, preferably in Guilford County.  The award is for $10,000 per year, renewable for a total of four years.

 The Toleo Foundation Community Scholarship Program, sponsored by Tobee and Leonard Kaplan, provides seven scholarships.  Each award is for $3000 and renewable for a total of four years.  This program is open to Guilford County High School seniors who will attend a public college/university in North Carolina and is awarded on the basis of financial need, academic record, community involvement and character.

This scholarship was established in 1994 through the will of Marjorie Evans Doggett in memory of her parents who lived in McLeansville.  Preference is given to a student who lives in McLeansville.  The $1000 scholarship is renewable for a total of four years.


The Wolfgang Häfele Memorial Scholarship:

The Wolfgang Hafele Memorial Scholarship is an academic scholarship established by Hafele America Compnay for graduating seniors who are dependents of full-time employees of the company.  The recipients are selected by the Community Foundation Scholarship Committee.  The award is for $7000 and is renewable for a total of four years.
 

The Jason Christopher James Scholarship:

Brooke Kincaid, Northwest Guilford High School going to UNC-Chapel Hill (shown above). 


 This scholarship was established in 1998 to honor the memory of Jason James and is open to Guilford County seniors who have demonstrated special interest and aptitude in foreign affairs, service to country, living and working abroad, and the international relations field.  The award is for $1000.

This scholarship was established in 1991 to honor the memory of John Carlton Myatt and is open to a Greensboro High School senior who displays creative, innovative and courageous spirit in writing and exhibits those skills through school and community activities to effect change.  The award is for $3000.  The selection committee consists of all past winners.

The Camberly Noel Holliday Performing Arts Scholarship

 Summer 2007 term was awarded to Taylor Klass, a student at Weaver Academy.  She will attend the Cannon Music Camp at Appalachian State University.


This scholarship was created to honor the memory of the short but full life of Camberly Noel Holliday and is open to current or rising 7th through 12th grader who lives in one of the 12 counties of North Carolina's Piedmont Triad.  Applicant must exemplify a passion for a discipline within the performing arts and have a minimum of two years experience in the discipline.  The amount of the award varies.

, of Springfield, MO graduated from Glendale High School.  She will attend Missouri State University to study Business and Marketing with a minor in Spanish.
- Lars Nelson, Miami FL, graduated from the Marian Baker School in San Jose, Costa Rica.  He will attend Whitworth College in Spokane, WA in the fall.  He is still undecided as to course of study.
- Joel Petron of Americus, GA graduated from Americus-Sumter High School and will attend Georgia Southwestern State University to study Art and Graphic Design.
- Sarah Welch, Deland, FL graduated from the Deland High School.  She will attend Florida State University and major in Marketing and Business.

- Andrew Wood, Keene, NH graduates from Keene High School.  He will attend Bates College to pursue a career in the food industry as a writer or journalist.


 

Hunter Byers Memorial Scholarship

 

James Geiger, Jr. and Sarah George, graduating from Page High School have each been awarded $1500 from the Hunter Byers Memorial Scholarship Fund.  This scholarship was established in June 2003 to honor the memory of Hunter Byers who passed away in January of 2003 at the age of sixteen.  Geiger will attend NC State and George, UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall.


Charlie Harville Memorial Scholarships

 
The Charlie Harville Memorial Scholarships are sponsored by the Greensboro Grasshoppers to honor High Point native, radio and TV sports announcer Charlie Harville.  Harville’s career in radio and TV Sports spanned six decades.  Candidates are nominated by the coaches.   The 2007 winners of the $1000 awards are

Nicholas Samuel Fragola Art Scholarships

The Nicholas Fragola Art Scholarships was established at Grimsley High School in July of 2003 by friends and family to honor the memory of Nicholas who was an award winning artist.  Two winners were chosen for 2007:  Timothy Purdy who will attend UNCG and Juliet Sperling going to UNC-Chapel Hill.  Each award is for $500.00.

Thomas G. O'Briant Memorial Scholarship

The Thomas G. O'Briant Memorial Scholarship was established in 1983 to honor the memory of Thomas O'Briant, a community leader and an avid golfer.  Amanda Adams, a graduate of Wetern Guilford High School is the 2007 recipient.  She will attend UNC-Chapel Hill to study Communications.  The $1,500 award is renewable for up to four years.
  
Helen and Anthony Guidone Scholarship

The Helen and Anthony Guidone Scholarship was created in 2004 at Jeannette High School in Jeannette, PA by Jim and July Guidone to honor the memory of Jim's parents.  The scholarship provides $2,500 per year for four years.  The 2007 winner is Brittany Williams who will attend Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA.

Triad Business and Professional Guild/James Allen Broach Scholarship

David Norton 
has been awarded the 2007 Triad Business and Professional Guild/James Allen Broach Scholarship in the amount of $1,500. Norton is a rising senior at Guilford College. This scholarship was established in 1997 by TBPG to honor James Allen Broach and to give financial assistance to students actively involved in fighting bigotry aimed at gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons.
