Congratulations to Community Game Changer Leslie Isakoff with A Simple Gesture

Leslie is the executive director of A Simple Gesture, a nonprofit food collection agency. A former pilot for the United Nations, she fell in love with Greensboro after moving here in 2015. She also became aware of the staggering number of children who had nothing to eat on the weekends when they weren’t at school. That discovery turned her into a tireless  advocate for hunger issues. As the only full-time staff member, Leslie has led the effort to collect more than 500,000 meals for local food pantries in Greensboro, including Backpack Beginnings, Out of the Garden, Greensboro Urban Ministry, and Jewish Family Services. She works with more than 400 volunteers to collect food door-to-door from 3,000 homes and more than 50 businesses, as well as schools, faith communities, and civic clubs. Under Leslie’s
direction, the program has blossomed and was named the
Greensboro Nonprofit of the Year in 2017. The partner pantries know they can count on a steady stream of food that lets them fill more comfort backpacks, more weekend food bags, and stock many school pantries each week.
