Becoming a Trustee

All trustees are trustees for life. Trustees choose to make a commitment at one of three stewardship levels, any of which may be paid over five years, and upon which the weight of your vote is based:

  • $25,000 or more -- at this level, these Endowment Trustees also are eligible to help determine an installation budget as well as cull an initial pool of artist prospects.
  • $10,000
  • $5,000

The more you give, the bigger your vote. The maximum votes you can accumulate is 5.

The Endowment has already received significant support. Many of your neighbors have already made Trustee level commitments putting the Endowment well on its way to its $2 million goal.

Art Selection Process

The Public Art Endowment is governed by its Trustees, who make all final decisions regarding art and project selections. Trustees are supported in their work by the Art Selection Committee. This committee is composed of arts professionals from across the country and headed by Laura Way, executive director of Green Hill Center for North Carolina Art in Greensboro, NC.

The Art Selection Committee recommends multiple artists and/or artworks for consideration. Trustees are then charged with voting on their final selection.

During the initial phase of the Endowment, installations were long-term but temporary.. The Endowment is now focusing its efforts on acquiring permanent, commissioned artworks.

Cheryl Cullom Stewart, The Public Art Endowment Consultant, has worked in public art since 1984. She has placed and promoted public art as the Public Art Consultant with the Raleigh-Durham International Airport for the renovation of Terminal 1 and 2, The Cemala Foundation, Action Greensboro and currently the Piedmont Triad International Airport, The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro‘s Public Art Endowment and the North Carolina Arts Council. She has managed many public art projects and programs in her career working at Metropolitan Transit Authority’s Art for Transit in NYC as the manager of the Permanent Art for the NYTA, LIRR and Metro-North Railroad, Program Coordinator for the City of Tampa’s Public Art Program and Project Coordinator for Miami-Dade Art in Public Places. She received her MA in Art History from FSU, and has been past-president of the Board of Green Hill Center for NC Art and the Weatherspoon Art Museum Association at UNCG.
